Never tried calling in black bears and was wondering if any of you fellas may have done so?

if so who makest he best bear callers ? digital or hand?

any information would be great, plenty of bears in my area to try calling on

We have done it several times trying to call in problem 'yotes. and everytime it was while we were usinga homemade tape of baby pigs squealling! sends them into a [beeep] feeding frenzy!LMAO! That reminds me I need to find that tape. We found it worked best in early spring and late fall! Best of luck! Gets your blood going when you have a big boar bearing down on you and you can't shoot them! No joke when they come in they come in hard and fast.

Yes it did!! especially in the spring when they had pups to feed!

I have called in bears with a predator call. The best was 5 bears in 2 1/2 days. Some come in fast and some just walk in. After the snows hit they seem to ignore the call. Perhaps it was just the time but they probably are not interested in meat when they are ready to hibernate. I generally use an open reed call such as Crit r call and make deeper deer-like sounds. That worked for me, however they probably come to most any distress sound. In CA the electronic call is not legal for big game.

The key is to fish where the fish are. Do your research and talk with biologists, houndsmen and most of all, trappers to get the location and food they are on.

Good hunting!

Great Article in the new copy of Fur Fish and Game about calling in Bears!Great article just read it last night!

Been calling bears for about a dozen years. Rabbit distress, fawn distress and calf/cow elk distress all work real well. Pick up the dvd "They come to eat" by Wayne Carlton if you think you want to try calling bears. Bearmanric makes some great calls and I also like Burnham Bros C3 Long Range.

X3 on Bearmanric. Great calls for bears i call bears every year. Distress hand calls. Fawn distress. Call loud and long. Some come in with a purpose, some turn tail and run and my pesonal favorite the ones that come in slowly and stop when I stop calling. They start again when I do. Gives me lots of time to look them over. Give it a try and like calling cougars, bring a buddy to watch you back.

Calling bears can be a real blood pumper. Like Redfrog said, some bust in fast, some crawl. I use a fawn bleat/distress. I never use hand calls because of the increased chance of calling in a Grizzly. I used to hunt alone but quit that. Just to hazardous in my opinion. I call bears strictly to photograph them and I do not want to have to shoot one. I killed enough of them in my younger years and dealing with a bear carcass is on my list of the things I dislike most.
