Calling in Bears..............

Hey guys,
Wondering how would this work in northern WI the terrian varry's from large ceder swamp's to slashings or cut overs fresh to 10 yrs old and old growth hard woods to thick tamarack and spruce swamps to a huge areas we call the barrons which are just that square miles of scurb oak and blueberry patchs. Iam sure it would work well here lots of bears we mostly bait but Iam looking for some other way!! spot and stalk is out of the ? here I think ? also they do tend to run hounds hard in some places how much doe's this seem to affect your calling out come. And 1 more ? maybe 2! how many hours or day's on avg does it take to call a bear in for a shot in areas were you have a number of bears like around a bear bait or corn fields like when you know were they are at. Next I have a new fp with remote and have the fawn distress sounds on there now what else would be good? Thanks guy's for bearing with me here on this long post see if you can make any sense of what I just asked?? Northern hunter
 
One sound can be added is a sound that is loud and agressive like a jack rabbit. Even though you don't have jack rabbits in the area the louder scream triggers the reponse of the bear.

If bears are in the area and they are looking for protein to add to their berry diet.


Calling will work well on the edges of larger swamps or wilderness areas where it is difficult to follow the dogs. That way you can avoid some conflicts with hound hunters.

I've called a few bears with my Foxpro in the spring. I am armed with a Sony video camera and thats it. I have used hand calls but I don't like using them because I do not want to shoot a bear and I want to keep a fair distance between me and them (I don't carry a gun because of too much camera equipment. Besides that, if anyone thinks he can draw and fire faster than a charging bear, I have a bridge to sell him). Calling bears with an ecaller is illegal if you are hunting them with a weapon. I used to go alone but quit that scenario. At least if I have company, they will know where to pick up my pieces. Once (and only once) I videoed a gorgeous straw blonde grizzly (His legs were dark brown) and the only thing between us was 20 yards of air. My wife was with me, we did not speak or move until it wandered off, and both of us were ready to call it quits for the day. Someday I'm going to learn to post from the video and I'll show you guys.
 
You have to draw a spring bear tag here in Washington also....bought my permit request and submitted it. Hopeing to make the cut when they draw the middle of next month. Fall bear hunts no permit required just a tag.
 
I called in 5 bears in No. Cal on one trip. The success was because I had good information from a trapper that knew where and what the bears were eating. At the time it was tan oaks. The next year I came back later in the season, Thanksgiving, and called for 5 days with no success. It snowed the day before we arrived and I think changing weather slowed down their desire for meat. There were plenty of bears that we kicked out walking to stands.

Other hunters agree that better results are had earlier in the season.

I always made long stands but my first called bear was dead in 2 minutes on the first stand. Most showed up quickly but then again, the area was loaded with bears.

The call was a Crit'r call
