Been trying for year or two with a light with no luck, so ponied up and grabbed a thermal last week. Got it sighted in and off I went. Hit a few fem barks and got a response. Worked him for 20 min, not having an idea if I was working him right, but could hear him yipping closer and closer, so I kept the call going. Still playing with the scope, settings and video, as this was my second time out with it. Weighing him on the scale, i have 45-48#. Seems heavy, so I'll try another scale tomorrow.

Congrats on your kill. Looks like a healthy one! Curious to see what it weighs. 40 is real common here in NY. 45 is totally possible. Above that, you’re getting into the stud zone!

Are you using a bipod or tripod? Looked like a lot of trouble settling in. Coulda been the excitement I suppose

Good going!

Couldn't get to where I wanted, so on the ground, hot seat and my knee. Settling in was me playing with the buttons, figuring out the scope in the field. Don't have a tripod that'll work with that rifle.....yet

very nice coyote. get an arca rail on that rifle and mount it to a tripod. you'll be amazed at the accuracy. lot easier to shoot from too.

lots of info here on a recent discussion regarding types of tripods, ball heads, leveling heads, etc..

Congrats on your nice big fat trophy!
Now you have something I haven't gotten----a coyote.
I'm very happy for you. Tonight, you'll double!!!

I have a cheap carbon tripod, arca mount. Just need to find s keymod/arcade adapter and I'll be good to go!

Heck yeah!! Take your thermal out in your yard and play with it. Get it set up how “you” like it. Play with the buttons until you know them by memory. And not sure what your shooting, but for now any type of locking tripod would work until you figure everything out.
Great job on the coyote! Didn’t think any of us knew what we were doing when we started, I know I didn’t. Play something until they respond and go from there. Looks like you’re off to a great start.
