predator calling for bears question??

I was wondering if any one has had any sucess at calling in bears. Last season I hit it hard at calling and took out several coyotes and 1 bob cat, saw 1 bear and attemted to call him in with JS call with fawn in distress with no luck.Just wondering what sounds are best to use on bears for western washington.

In my humble opinion BearmanRic is the god of washington bear calling. He has suitcases of calls and more of those fishing lure boxes of calls than a bass fisherman. I do not know the exact sound he uses(electronic) it is a bleating, sort of a deep jackrabbit sound with a nasal rasp to it, he augments with a loud mouth call. I am sure bear cub distress is on the label somewhere.
Sounds like you are getting critters, Ric and I want to hunt over that way someday. I hunt Turkeys near Fruitland.
Good luck
Carl

I too hunt turkeys in fruitland,As mater of fact I am headed there on laborday weekend to do some calling for bears and what ever else comes in.I have taken 2 tom turkeys in the davenport area in the past and 1 in hunters this year.Well if I get any sucess with calling bears I will post it,I do have the bear cub distress along with several others.Just wondering which sound to use.The only bear I saw last year was not interested in any of the sounds I used on him, fawn in distress, rabbit, bear cub.He just turned and looked over the hill at me from about 300yrds away the disappered into the woods.

Hey Darrel, Ive been hunting the Granite falls area quite a bit and calling on occation. I have a Wayne Carlton bear calling video if you would like to see it. He gives some good advice on setup and examples of what has and hasn't worked for him. He's also got some nice footage of brown trouser moments for sure.

Hi Patrick :I have seen that vidio its great. That is what inpired me to start calling for bears.I saw a couple of your posts and noticed that you live vary close to me.It would be nice to hunt with someone that was clued in to what is going on.Where in snohomish are you located,I grew up there and graduated in 81,Lived off 3lakes rd. I have taken 3 bears with baits when it was legal and 2 by stalking, 0 calling. What areas have you tryed calling at? I now live just off Jordon RD 1 mile out of Granitfalls.

You fellas are hunting in my backyard for them turkeys. There is some pretty decent bear areas not very far from Fruitland and a buddy of mine shot a 173 class whitetail not far from Fruitland. Let me know when you are over this way sometime and I will be more than happy to help call a bear into your lap. Take care. Fred

I also suffer from multiple call syndrome but found the best sucess with jack rabbit distress that hurts my ears when I call. It has been too hot to call but this weekend the first fall rains are going to hit the Oregon coast and it will dampen woods and reduces the risk of fires. I hope that the timber companies will open their lands at that point.

"At this time, for some reason, the bear killed and ate him. I suspect that Ms. Huguenard's screams, which sound eerily like a predator call, may have prompted the bear to return and kill her. He then cached her body to be eaten later.''
A predator call is a device hunters use to lure foxes, coyotes and wolves into rifle range. It has a high-pitched tone meant to imitate the call of an injured animal. The calls have been known to attract bears in Alaska.
The old boar that fed upon Treadwell and Huguenard -- and is likely the one that killed them both -- was estimated to weigh more than 1,000 pounds and had broken canine teeth. Van Daele doesn't think the other bear that rangers shot at the scene Monday, an apparent 3-year-old, had anything to do with the killings. That bear's stomach, along with most of its carcass, had already been consumed by other bears."

This bear mauling is an incredible, still developing story here in Alaska.
